Jean Dobson Porter, 97, a native of Charlotte passed away March 3, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Franklin Porter, Jr and her brother Col. Robert R Dobson Jr. She was the daughter of Martha Lockhart Dobson and Robert R Dobson, Sr. She is survived by her daughters Carol Williams and husband Mike, Gail Holland and Barbara Taylor. Also surviving her are grandchildren Jimmy Holland, Marie Harris, Greg Williams and Tiffany Vang and four great grandchildren.
She was a longtime member of Myers Park Baptist Church where she loved her Sunday School class and Circle. She volunteered for The Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity.
For fun she loved to garden, be with family and play bridge. She attended Queens College and during World War Two worked at Fort Sutton in Monroe and when it closed transferred to a hospital in Florida processing wounded soldiers as a civilian in Daytona.
She was buried at Sharon Memorial Park in a family graveside service officiated by Rev. Joseph D. Aldrich of Myers Park Baptist Church on March 7, 2020.
