Joan M. (Anderson) Kmett, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on March 28, 2025, weeks past her 90th birthday. Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, she married Frank "Sonny" Kmett in 1955 and the couple spent many summer nights on their boat docked at Forest City Yacht Club. Tired of Cleveland winters, the couple moved to Florida in the early 70s, building homes in Plantation, Coral Springs and Palm Bay. The couple enjoyed traveling in their motorhome to visit family and attend polka festivals in Ohio and Florida; sight-seeing trips to Alaska and the western U.S. were favorites. Joan enjoyed decorating their homes, tending her orchids, and was known for her homemade Christmas cookies and nut potica. After Frank's passing in 2000, Joan moved to Charlotte to be closer to her sister, Barbara James of Matthews, NC. Together, they traveled to the United Kingdom and China and enjoyed visiting with family and going out to dinner and a movie.
Along with her sister, "Aunt Joanie" is lovingly remembered by three nieces and two nephews and their families: Kathy Phyfer and husband, Steve, of Davidson, NC; Dave Fallert and wife, Lauren, of Wilson, NC; Kimberly Prince and husband, Mark, of Debary, FL; Toni Santos of Deerfield Beach, FL, and Kerry Kmett of Aurora, CO. She was a long-time friend and "Mom" to Sue Banville of Mayfield Hts, OH and Sue Pederson of Phoenix, AZ.
The family expresses its appreciation to the staff at Brightmore of South Charlotte, with a special thank you to Diane, Patti and Ramona, as well as her wound care nurse Tammy from CenterWell Home Health. In her final weeks, she received exceptional care by the staff of VIA Health Partners Hospice and BlueDot Cares, notably Jennifer, Felicia and Amber.
Per her request, there were no services.
