Judith “Judy” Hasbrouck Gaffney

Judith “Judy” Hasbrouck Gaffney, 72, of Charlotte NC passed peacefully on September 22, 2019 from her battle with cancer. She is predeceased by her daughter, Sara Caroline Gaffney, and brother Willard “Bill” Hasbrouck, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Craig Scott Gaffney; her daughters, Erin Gaffney and Heather Gaffney-Darnell; and her son Carey Gaffney along with his wife Adena and granddaughter, Amelia.

She retired after 20 years from Traffic Management Inc. as an auditor and spent parts of her retirement playing with her granddaughter, and spending time with family and friends. She had a great love of Harry Potter, professional tennis, and the Atlanta Braves, as well as Animal Planet and National Geographic Wild Network. She was particularly fond of veterinary shows like Dr. K, and Dr. Jeff.

Judy grew up attending Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte NC, where she and her parents Elizabeth “Betty” Hasbrouck, and Willard “Will” Hasbrouck, were very active members. You might find her talking to and spending time with her friends she affectionately referred to as “the Church Ladies”.

As a mother, she was very active in her children’s lives attending soccer games, dance and music recitals, band competitions, and was Mom to not only her children, but friends of her children. She was Mom to everyone, and loved as such. She should always be remembered for her involvement in what was known in its formative days as the Twin Mothers Club of Charlotte – now expanded to the Charlotte Mothers of Multiples (CMOMs) – upon the birth of Erin and Sara, identical daughters. She actually served as president of that nationally known organization, sometimes down-playing her efforts there. She was a dedicated, highly effective leader of this group that aided and guided so many.

The family would like to thank the staff of Levine Cancer Center, the staff of Atrium Medical Center for Judy’s care this past year. They also want to express special appreciation for the ministry and members of Covenant Presbyterian Church, and close family friends for their ongoing support, whether it was a kind phone call, or a ride to an appointment. Your presence in her life meant the world to her, and to the family.

The visitation is the evening of Thursday, September 26th from 6 to 8 pm at Carolina Funeral Service and Cremation. On Friday, September 27th, the graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery at 11 am followed by a memorial service in the chapel of Covenant Presbyterian Church at 1pm. The family invites you to visit with them in the downstairs parlor after service.
