June McKinney (née Holton) passed away peacefully at her Charlotte home on June 11, 2025. She was nearly 94 years of age. Born in 1931 on the 4th of July, June was the daughter of the late James W. Holton and Winnie Corbin Holton of Wilmington, N.C.
She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. June was also a dedicated teacher and counselor. She graduated from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Later, she returned to UNCC to read for and earned her Master Degree in Counseling. June taught at several schools in Charlotte Mecklenburg County, including Albemarle Road Junior High. She taught in Texas and Florida, as well as, several other locations in North Carolina. While at Atlantic Christian College, June met the love of her life, Morgan McKinney. She and Morgan married in 1954 and began, as June would always say, their 62 year long Love-Story. They enjoyed their church-life, traveling together, and raising their two children, Donna and Mark.
