Katherine Renfrow Erwin Davis Duncan Devereux

January 10, 1945 – October 7, 2023

The loving daughter of James Hiter Erwin and Katherine Vale Renfrow, Kathy peacefully departed her earthly home for her heavenly estate Saturday, October 7, 2023, surrounded by loving family and dear hospice nurses. Kathy fought valiantly for 14 years battling triple negative breast cancer. She never gave up hope or stopped fighting to live with purpose and to stay with her family that she adored. Kathy is survived by her brothers: James H. Erwin, Jr. (Tootie), Thomas Jefferson Erwin (Sam), Charles Grier Erwin (Susan), and Renfrow and Erwin cousins near and far.

Left to carry on her legacy of loving kindness is her devoted husband of 37 years, George D. Devereux III, her precious children, E. Robert Davis Jr. (Wanda), Katherine Davis Day (David), Stephen B. Duncan Jr., George D. Devereux IV, Gabriel E. Devereux (Heather)

She was “Nanny” to Brandon Robert Davis (Davie), Carson Tanner Davis; Jacob Kelly Day, Katherine Grace Day, Isabella Faith Day, Lucas Michael Jenkins; Mason Forrest Duncan, Austin Vale Duncan, Walker Bryan Duncan; Cameron Devereux, Abigail Devereux, Riley Devereux, Emily Devereux, Lily Devereux, Daniel Devereux; Adelei Devereux and Dove Devereux; and she was over the moon with joy upon learning Adelei and Dove are getting a new baby sister next Spring. Yogi, our faithful four-footed friend, was her constant loving companion at home and on the road.

Kathy managed the P&C Credit Union (Pelton & Crane) in Charlotte for 20 years. It was there she met and swept her (single father of two boys) future husband right off his feet. She loved family events, gardening, cooking, painting, redecorating, shopping of all varieties and she excelled at all.

An Intimate Family internment will be held at Matthews Cemetery on Wednesday October 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. immediately followed at 12:00 p.m. by a funeral mass and celebration of life at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, Carmel Road, Charlotte, NC. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.

The Devereux Family wishes to thank Kathy’s dedicated care team from Levine Cancer Institute, and to extend a special thanks to VIA Health Partners Hospice who so generously and gently helped us all transition through a terribly difficult time with dignity and peace of mind.  In lieu of flowers we encourage financial gifts to Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
