The Orchard, by Larry Economos
I will sleep in this orchard
By the sea
Until the end of time
May come to me
I will filter my lungs
With fresh clean air
Until my body finds repair
I will turn from lies
From thieves
And hives
Of bundled darkness
And wicked sighs
I will trumpet and dance
On windswept sand
Where fires crackle
And old men haggle
Over stars, and moon
And stolen shackles
That bind our feet
To crabs and jackals
That steal our lives
And loves
I will sleep in this orchard
By the sea
With starlit sky watching over me
