Marie Angelina (Perrone) Durante

Marie Angelina Durante died at home on Sunday, July 17th, 2022, surrounded by family.  Born on July 23rd, 1927, to the late James and Mildred Perrone in NYC.  Preceded in death by her husband Donald Durante and son Michael Durante. Marie and Don and their family moved to Charlotte in 1969. Her greatest joys in life were her family and friends and welcoming everyone with open arms into their home. Marie devoted herself to running the household, caring for and raising their children, assisting her husband with his business and serving her church.  

She always made every holiday, every birthday, and every special occasion all the more special. She was the glue that held the entire family together for generations, giving all a lifetime of precious memories to cherish and she will live on in their hearts forever. Marie was a devout parishioner of St Gabriel’s Catholic Church and a dedicated volunteer in too numerous capacities to mention and served as a Eucharistic Minister and on the Bereavement Ministry for many years.  She touched countless lives and her compassionate care to all those in need earned her the well- deserved name of endearment. "Saint Marie" She will be fondly remembered with loving admiration and appreciation and deeply missed by all.

Marie is survived by her seven children, Marie Gomez, (Gerry) of New Jersey, Donna Owens (Steve) of Charlotte, Rosemarie Schmitt (Robert) of South Carolina, Mildred Flora of Charlotte, Alicia "Lisa" Clifford (Steve), Ralph Durante of Stanfield, James Durante of Charlotte, and her son forever in her heart David McGill (Adrienne) of New Jersey, Along with a legacy of 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.  She loved all dearly, along with their spouses whom she treated as special as her own. 

 The family wants to send a special Thank You to Steve Kuzma with Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center, who’s entrusted with the arrangements, and especially Novant Hospice for all their help and support and loving guidance in our difficult time.  In lieu of flowers condolences may be made online and donations to Novant Hospice.
