Mary Elizabeth (Byrd) Williams

Mary Elizabeth Williams age 89 of Mint Hill, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from Alzheimer's Disease.  Born September 5, 1931 in Fairmont, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late James Luther Byrd and Thelma Tolar Byrd.  She moved to Charlotte in 1949 and in 1951 married Eudelle Williams.  The couple were married 45 years.

Mrs. Williams was a Bond Underwriter for Continental and Peerless Insurance.   Prior to her retirement in 1993, Mary played softball for Continental  Insurance, and was a member of the first women's softball team.   She was a former member of Shamrock Drive Baptist Church, and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, and the Sunday School Class .

Besides her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers James, Thomas, Carroll and Harold Byrd.  Surviving family members are  Diane Stubbs of Mint Hill, Tim (Rhonda) Williams of Charlotte, Michael (Erin) Williams of Mint Hill,  Michelle (Steve) Dean of Vinton, VA. and Scotty (Darla) Williams of Charlotte.  Also surviving is her sister Delaine Hardin of Fairmont, North  Carolina as well as 13 grandchildren, Shannon Hall, Joshua Stubbs, Angel Barbee, Stephen Dean, Amber Carpenter, Jake Dean, Haley Nasburn, Brandon Williams, Lexi Dean, Jaden Williams, Austin Williams, Tyler Dean, Sadie Williams.  Also surviving are her 9 great grandchildren, Camden, Addyson, Kiley, Maddox, Kayson, Cooper, Cade, Stephen and Noah and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center, 5505 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, on Saturday, September 4th from 12-1:30 PM.  A funeral service will follow at 1:30PM.  Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park.
