Mary Elizabeth (Stokes) Eudy

Mary Eudy, age 89 of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024.  She was preceded in death by Bruce, her husband of 68 years.  She is survived by daughter Deanna, son Sam (wife Debbie), son Wayne (wife Melinda), 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Born in an old farmhouse in Greenville Township, Pitt County NC and raised in the same area until she left home to join the Army.  While in the service, she met Bruce on a blind date and as they say, the rest is history.

Mary followed Bruce on all his deployments over his 27-year military career with the exception of Korea and Vietnam.  She was a homemaker, choosing to raise a family rather than having an outside career.  Beginning in 1992 upon Bruce’s final retirement from a Security Management position with Faison Associates, she and Bruce traveled to all 50 states, camping in all but three.  Mary kept journals of their travels and recently began reading them and reliving the adventures that had taken them far and wide and the memories they had made along the way. 

Mary was a member of Tar Heel Decorative Artists and was quite a gifted painter.  She painted landscapes, animals, floral arrangements and everything in between.  Much of what she did was one of a kind, but she did bless her children with some items that she painted in multiples.  Never one to sell her wares, she left behind a huge collection of artworks.

Bruce and Mary gardened for a number of years.  Lots of fresh produce for eating, canning, freezing and sharing.  This was something each of them had grown up doing so it was no surprise they continued that practice.

Mary was a woman with a strong faith, a devoted wife and mother and later a grandmother and great-grandmother.  Family meant everything to Mary, and she was always ready to welcome them into her heart and home.  She will be dearly missed but knowing she is now with Bruce brings comfort.

The memorial service for Mary will be held Thursday, February 1st, at Memorial United Methodist Church, 4012 Central Avenue, Charlotte NC  28205.  Visitation will be at 10:00 am with the funeral at 11:00 am followed by a graveside service at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill NC  28227.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memorial United Methodist Church.
