Mary Margaret Myers, 85, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on December 25, 2023. She was born on October 7, 1938, in Chicago, IL, to Gerald and Anna Myers, who gave her the nickname “Bambi.”
As Bambi Walsh, she earned a BA in Art from the University of South Dakota. She honed her artistic skills and became a renowned artist, her colorful, vibrant paintings leaving a lasting legacy. Her talent and creativity were showcased in various exhibitions, including a one-woman show at the Mint Museum.
Later she earned her Master’s degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Human Development and Learning. She pursued a career in Counseling for many years, dedicating her time to helping incarcerated juveniles.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Oakes (Tony), and her grandchildren, Donnie Baker (Britany), Jessica Fischer (Lawrence), and Tony Oakes, Jr. Mary Margaret was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Sunday Fischer. She is also survived by her sister, Anne Marie Allison, and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved.
Mary Margaret was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Martin Walsh, and her husband, William (Bill) Bryan. Mary Margaret and Bill enjoyed a playful marriage for many years. He was her friend and confidante, sharing their love of animals, music and other humanitarian pursuits.
A memorial and celebration of Mary Margaret's life will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, located at 115 W 7th St in Charlotte, on Friday, January 5 at 2 pm. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring her memory, and are invited to share stories of her vibrant life at the reception following.
In lieu of flowers, Mary Margaret supported the World Wildlife Fund, Doctors Without Borders, and St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She would be pleased if donations were made in her honor to any of these organizations, or to a charity of your choice. Contributions can be made directly to the respective charities.
