Nancy Lou (Jones) Crites

Nancy “Lou” Crites (Jones) died on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Sharon Towers after a prolonged illness. She was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, December 16, 1942 to the late Dr. O. Hunter and Nancy Hovis Jones. Lou graduated from Myers Park High School, and attended Randolph-Macon Women’s College for two years before transferring to UNC Chapel Hill, where she graduated with a Liberal Arts degree. After marriage, she lived and worked in the Mid-West and finished her career in Human Resources in St. Louis, Missouri.

Some of Lou’s fondest memories were of caring for her three children, providing a loving home for her adopted cats, family vacations at the beach, reading fiction, and volunteering at the Missouri Botanical Garden. She had many dear friendships throughout her life and … although not always the grandparent she wanted to be due to her illness, adored her grandchildren and loved hearing stories about them. 

Lou is survived by her children; Susan Wahler of Georgetown, SC (Robin), Sherman Crites of Columbia, MO (Amy), and Gina Crites of Denver, CO, and her four grandchildren; Annalise and Alexandra Wahler and Brady and Presley Crites, as well as two sisters; Frances Thompson (Bill) of Charlotte, NC and Elizabeth Jones (Bill) of Ridgeway, CO.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Lou Crites will be held at a date to be decided later.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The MS Society, The Humane Society, or The Missouri Botanical Garden to honor her memory.

The family would like to express their sincerest thanks to the staff at Sharon Towers and her hospice team at Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region for the care they provided throughout the years.
