Patricia Smith Obituary

Pat was born in Portsmouth Virginia to Charles Nathanial Smith and Elizabeth Eason Smith. She attended South Norfolk High School where she excelled in basketball and softball and was named most athletic her jr. and sr. year. After graduation she moved to Richmond and took a job with NAPA.
She was a very talented person, both in sports and in business. In Richmond she continued her excellence in sports, being named All American in Basketball and being elected into the Hall of Fame as Fast Pitch Pitcher. She was also an above average bowler, a softball and baseball umpire and a good golfer.
In high school she was asked to join the AAGPBL (League of their own fame) but had to decline because she was only 15 and parents would not sign consent. She pitched two perfect games in National Competition and was also a powerful hitter. In basketball she was a high scoring point guard and played with the likes of Nera White .. She played for many teams over the years including the Navy Waves, Polyannas and Phillip Morris where she won many MVP awards.
Pat was also an very talented and intelligent person as seen in her floral design ability and her supurb woodcraft creations. She was well versed in many subjects, Religions of the World, Astrology and loved to read. She also enjoyed music, movies ghost stories and all sports.
She was an advocate for women's rights and marched in the Feminist Movement in the 60's and 70's. She owned several businesses, including a florist, a dog grooming business, a restaurant and bar and was recruited by Dupont to work for them. She worked at Dupont until Philip Morris came calling. She worked there until her retirement.
There wasn't an animal she didn't love, dogs,cats, bunnies,pigeons and turtles of which she owned many of each thru her years.
Pat loved her God, her family and her friends and her animals.
She was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2015 and declined rapidly over the last year. She passed after a fall due to complications with congestive heart failure and alzheimers.
She was predeceased by her parents, a baby brother and a niece Terrie Jones.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister (Betty Jones) her nephews Nick Jones (Pat) Alan Jones 
(Sara),her great nephews Nick,Michael,Chase and Dylan Jones and a great niece, Elizabeth Jones. She will always be loved and remembered by her partner of 36+years, Denise Greenway.

A Memorial Service will be held on April 9th, 2022 at Carolina Funeral Service and Cremation Center at 5505 Monroe Rd. Charlotte, N.C. 
Receiving of friends from 10 to 11 and service a 11. Masks are 
appreciated but not required.
