Patricia Dale Aycock, matriarch of the Aycock family, passed through the Heavenly gates in the early morning hours of August 30, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 11, 1953 to S.V. Mauldwin, Jr and Myrtle Mauldwin of Charlotte, NC.
Patti (Dale) was a 1971 graduate of Garinger High School, where she played in the high school band. While at Garinger, she met the love of her life, Joey Aycock. Joey would chase Patti throughout the Charlotte Coliseum at Charlotte Checkers hockey games to get her attention and to try to get her to dump her then current boyfriend in order to make him her new boyfriend. Patti enjoyed playing hard to get with Joey. They were then married, after 7 years of dating, in May 1978 at Memorial United Methodist Church.
When her husband opened his own business, Joey’s Truck and Auto Repair, in 1982, she quickly became his business partner and co-owner of the business. She continued to “hold down the fort” at home while doing administrative duties for the shop from home. Patti was the consummate multitasker.
Faith was a big part of Patti’s life. She was a lifelong member of Memorial United Methodist Church, where her parents were charter members. She was a member of the Chancel Choir for the majority of her life, not only singing with her parents as members of the choir, but also her kids and granddaughter as well.
Patti never met a stranger. She always made you feel welcomed into her home. She was the neighborhood mom when the family lived in the Chestnut Lake neighborhood, and that continued after they moved to Matthews. It didn’t matter if it was the entire Independence HS Marching Band, a dance troupe from Steps n Motion Dance Studio, youth group from Memorial UMC, or random NASCAR drivers and team members who couldn’t travel home for holidays during the season. She made you feel like you were part of the family. She was one of the most selfless people you could ever meet. Patti was very compassionate, loving, and empathetic. As one person put it, “the jewels in her crown are too numerous to count.” That sums up Patti perfectly.
Along with her husband Joey, of 43 years, Patti is survived by her sons Joey III and Joshua (Jennifer), daughters Kelley Pham (John), and Kaci Covington, 10 grandchildren (Abigael, Khloe, Brian, Kahlyn, Jaiden, Billy, Brooklyn, Elijah, Charlotte, and Joshua Jr.), brother Mark Mauldwin, and numerous cousins.
A Celebration of Patti’s life will be Friday, September 3 at 11:00am at Memorial United Methodist Church. Receiving of friends will be after the service on the front lawn of the church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Patti to Memorial United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank Hospice of Union County, especially Christine & Andrea for their care during Patti’s battle with cancer. A special thank you to Brightstar Care nurse Melissa for your tireless efforts in keeping Patti comfortable during her final days. Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center is entrusted with the arrangements.
