Patricia Ellis Smith of Charlotte N.C. passed away April 22nd, 2024
Born November 19, 1940 in Charlotte N.C., she was the daughter of Arthur
Victor and Maxine Adams, and older sister to Victor Jerome (Jerry) Adams.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Smith, and son, Cameron, and is survived by her brother Jerry, her daughter Victoria, grandson Harry, and son-in-law Tim.
Over the years she worked as a teacher, caterer, manager of her husband’s office supply business and landscape designer but the role she most cherished was that of mother, grandmother and friend. Always the consummate people person, Pat loved nothing more than to spend time with her many and varied friends and the constant stream of visitors to her home in the Cotswold neighborhood of Charlotte, during the final weeks of her battle against cancer, is testament to the love they had for her.
Her final weeks epitomized the words of Dylan Thomas, when he wrote,
“Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
A memorial gathering will take place at Pat’s home on 18 May at 2 pm.
