Phyllis Louvinia Redman Nanney, 86, passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte. She was born September 10, 1933, in Pilot Mountain, NC (Surry County) to the late George Washington Redman and Viola Simmons Redman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Robert Stribling Nanney; her sisters Vallie Joyce Frye and Hallie Norman; brothers Granville Redman, Russell Redman, Hobert Redman, Dalmer Redman, and Roger Redman. She is survived by her daughter Emily Marie Nanney of Charlotte as well as several nieces and nephews.
Phyllis graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics (education) in 1955 from Guilford College and a Master of Education from UNC-Chapel Hill. She retired from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in 1991 with 30 years of service. Phyllis served as an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Circle #6.
The family would like to thank Compassionate Care of Charlotte as well as Novant Health Hospice for their loving care and support. A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 101 Colville Rd., Charlotte, NC 28207.
