Phyllis Beck Thompson

Mrs. Phyllis Beck Thompson, 97, of Charlotte, NC died October 5, 2025, at the Brightmore of South Charlotte. A celebration of Phyllis’ life which will be held at Carmel Presbyterian Church for family and friends on February 28, 2026, at 2 pm.
Phyllis was born in Stanly County, NC on November 5, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Seba E. Beck and Ola May Cruse Beck. She lived in Badin NC, graduated from Badin High School, and attended Pfeiffer University. On February 16, 1947, she married Joseph Walter Thompson, Jr. of New London NC and she resided in Charlotte, except for a brief period in New Mexico and Salisbury, NC.
Phyllis, as she was known to all her friends, was a loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was a very active member in her church, Sardis Presbyterian, serving as a Stephen Minister and in other groups.
Phyllis is survived her four beloved children, sons, Joseph W. Thompson, III of Georgetown, SC (Jo), Jeffrey D. Thompson of Charlotte, NC, (Laurel), daughters, Anne Beck Thompson Stovall of Pinehurst, NC and Jane Avery Thompson Goldenberg (Steven), of Orlando, FL. Also surviving are her six much loved grandchildren, Joseph W. Thompson, IV, (Taryn), Kathryn Keller Thompson Bailey, (David), Sarah Sloan Thompson Beyer, (A.J.), Emily Beck Thompson Smith, (Josh), Jonathan Matthew Goldenberg, (Monica) and Rachel Anne Goldenberg. Other survivors include three nieces and one nephew. Also living to continue her memory are her great grandchildren, Van, Mitchell and Page Thompson, Keller Bailey, Henry, Willa, Penny, Bo, and Sadie Lee Beyer, Ford and Olivia Smith, Dean, Ava, and Owen Goldenberg.
Phyllis had a passion for visiting museums and was a collector of beautiful antiques. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was an avid reader of the Bible.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to those who have been so supportive and instrumental in providing care to Phyllis during the years, especially Julie B. Varnadore, Sunny Smith, Passion Ward, the staff at the Brightmore of South Charlotte and Hospice of Charlotte and many friends from Sardis Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be sent to Sardis Presbyterian Church 6100 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC.
