Mrs. Nicolopoulos, 76, of Charlotte, NC died Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. Pitsa, the daughter of the late Theodoros and Paraskeve (Kopsiaftis; ie Copsis) Papastavrides was born in Karyae, Lakonias, Greece. She eloped at the age of 16 with her sweetheart George Nicolopoulos and got married soon thereafter in Sparti, Greece. They made their home in Sparti where they expanded their family to include their daughter. In 1969, she and their daughter came to Charlotte to join her husband who had arrived a year earlier. She was a housewife who enjoyed taking care of her loved ones and her home. Her home was always open to family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years George Nicolopoulos, daughter Sofia Nicolopoulos, and several beloved aunts, many cousins, and their families.
Mrs. Nicolopoulos was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral for many years. She then became a long time member of St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church.
The family wants to thank Dr. Evans, Dr. Allen, Dr. Hawley, and the numerous nurses and staff who gave such excellent, loving care to Mrs. Nicolopoulos during her 4 weeks in the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit. They would also like to thank Dr. Peter Copsis for the excellent care he provided to her over the many years as her Primary Care Physician.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 19th at 10am at St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, 5108 Kuykendall Rd, Charlotte with the funeral service to follow at 11am. Burial will follow at Evergreen City Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorials in memory of Mrs. Nicolopoulos may be made to St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, 5108 Kuykendall Rd, Charlotte, NC 28270 with a designation that it is for the Building Fund.
