Raymond Chance Obituary

Raymond John Chance ,70, of Charlotte, passed away on Monday September 21, 2020 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital  following a stroke.   Ray was born in Charlotte on December 4, 1949 to the late John and Helen  (Kimble ) Chance . He gradauted frrom Garinger High School, Class of 68.  He graduated from Charlotte Memorial School of Nursing, and worked as a Registered Nurse and medical tech at the former Charlotte Memorial Hospital .  Ray had worked briefly at Hankins-Whittington Funeral Home before he purchased a local florist, and renaming it  Colonial Florist.   Mr. Chance  had been a member of Maranatha Baptist Church before joining All Saints Episcopal Church, where he served in various positions including Vestry, Parrish Administrator and Senior Warden..

Ray served as Vice President of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Clowns was known as "Jingles the Clown.  He was the executive commissioner of the Historic North Charlotte (NODA) Executive Board.  Mr. Chance was associated with Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center for 20 years. As owner of Colonial Florist, Ray designed flowers for many celebrities including Cher, Neal Diamond and Bette Middler and former President Jimmy Carter.

Besides his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brother Billy Ray Chance, sister Sue Chance Cline and his friend and 4 legged side kick Rowdy.
  
 Raymond is survived  sister and brother in law Gail (Larry) Hansen of Backus, MN; brother and sister in law Rodney (Patricia) Chance of Charlotte as well as 2 nieces, 2nephews, 2 grand niece,3 grand nephews, cousins and numerous friends and  his constant 4 legged companion RJ
  
 Visitation will be held  Saturday, September 26, 2020 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at New Hope Baptist Church, 7841 Idlewild Rd, Charlotte  ( corner of Idlewild and WT Harris ) with Rev. Albert Johnston and Rev. Ben Cline officiating.  Burial will take place in the Sunset Memory Gardens.
