Raymond "Ray" Mogle Obituary

Raymond “Ray” Edward Mogle of Portland, Oregon passed away unexpectedly of cardiac arrest September 19th 2020 in the Charlotte, NC airport following a family visit with cousins in Alabama.  He was 61 years old.

Ray, who was affectionately called “Bitsy” by family, was born January 10th 1959 in Tempe, AZ to John Dixon Mogle and Elizabeth Bowling Young. He was preceded in death by both parents and stepfather Al Young. He is survived by sisters Sandra Jones & husband Ray, Jackie Redmond & husband Dennis (Grants Pass, Oregon) as well as brother John Mogle & wife Charlene of Klamath Falls, Oregon.  Nieces and nephews include Jody and Jerry Mogle, Kayleigh Redmond, Michael and Trisha Jones.  Great-nieces: Hannah, Abigail & Natalie Mogle.

As an ‘Army brat,’ Ray attended various elementary schools in Arizona & California before moving to Klamath Falls where he graduated from Klamath Union High School.

Ray loved and lived most of his adult life in Portland. He retained a vast knowledge of the city and was referred to as the family’s Portland historian.  He was a hard worker, served as manager in multiple roles and spent many years in the food industry (an easy recruit for holiday meal cooking).  He was most recently a staple at Uncle Vinny’s Eatery & Pizza in Portland.

Ray closely followed national, college and local sports.  He was a fan of the Oregon Ducks, the 49ers as well as the Medford A’s (years ago).  The family maintains a strong tradition of playing canasta with each visit and Ray was always game.  Other interests include golfing, camping and gardening.  He loved gladiolas and grew tomatoes that were enjoyed by many.

Ray was easygoing, quick to offer words of encouragement and enjoyable to be around.   He was dedicated to friendships and helping others with a soft heart for cats and birds.  He lived his life quietly and peaceably.  Vacations with friends (especially to Rockaway Beach) and family were highlights. We are missing him greatly.

Carolina Funeral Home & Yates Cremation Services provided aftercare in North Carolina.  Burial will be in the Cave Junction family plot in the spring. A memorial gathering will be held October 18 at Rockaway Beach, Oregon.
