Rex Pleasant Callicott, 96, of Lake Wylie, SC, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2023.
Rex was born on December 21, 1926 in Memphis, TN to Rex Everett Callicott, and Maudine Curtis Callicott. The journey of life took him to Keen, TX, Baton Rouge, LA, Greenville, MS, Charlotte, NC and Lake Wylie, SC.
Rex was a WWII Navy Vet, land developer, entrepreneur, private pilot, fisherman and hunter. He was also an avid golfer, once winning a car with a hole-in-one at a tournament. His early career was spent assisting in the operation of his father's bakery, Jack's Cookie Corporation. In 1959 he and his wife, Nela, moved to oversee the opening of the company headquarters in Charlotte, NC where they lived until his retirement in 1985. In later years, Rex enjoyed his long membership with Rolling Hills Country Club in Monroe, NC and especially the time spent on Argyle, the family farm in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana, which he continued to manage until his passing.
He is survived by his sister Bettye Callicott Desjardins, his four sons and daughters-in-law: James Everett (Peggy) of Lexington, SC, David Raymond (Garilyn) of Matthews, NC. Rex Craig (Cindy) of Rock Hill, SC and Frederick Paul (Venda) of Matthews, NC; 8 grandchildren: James Patrick Callicott (Gail), Sharon Mailin Callicott; Aubrey Callicott Caldwell (Aaron), Marisa Ann Callicott; Jennifer Callicott Ostrom (Daniel); Leonce Paul Callicott (Karen), Andrew Travis Callicott, and Venda Elodie Callicott; 7 great-grandchildren: James Daniel Callicott (Chelsea), David Myles Caldwell, Fox Ivor Allen Ostrom, Clara Rae, Sadie Marie, Ian Mykael and Atlee Nela-Grace; and 2 great-great grandchildren: Luna Kathryne Ashley and Rhiannon Oona Marie.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years. Nela Ray Marie Gautreau Callicott.
