Mr. Bigham died June 15,2021 at Wellmore of Tega Cay. He was born December 20, 1923 in the Elizabeth neighborhood of Charlotte, NC, son of Mary Caudle Bigham and Charles Grier Bigham. At an early age, he and the family moved to the Steele Creek area where he resided for the remainder of his life.
Mr. Bigham was a graduate of Berryhill High School, Class of 1941. In the fall of 1942, he was inducted into the U.S. Army serving primarily in the South Pacific, until his discharge in 1945. In 1946 he began an association with Winchester Surgical Supply Company which lasted 50 years, until his retirement in 1996. Post retirement, Mr. Bigham volunteered with multiple agencies involved with providing nutrition to those in need.
Mr. Bigham was a life- long member of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church where he served in various capacities. The church provided his foundation and was central to the formation of lifelong friendships.
Mr. Bigham was married to Helen Virginia Carr Bigham for nearly 60 years prior to her passing in November of 2014. Survivors include their three children, Richard Bigham and wife Karen of Weaverville, NC, Roger Bigham and Malinda Kirkland of Sylva, NC, and Mary Larkin Hoffman and husband Brian of Lake Wylie, SC. Also surviving are grandchildren Mac Hoffman, Leah Bigham and Ginny Hoffman.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bigham was predeceased by his brothers Charles Grier Bigham, Jr and James Fulton Bigham.
A memorial service will be held at Steele Creek Presbyterian at Pleasant Hill on July 24, 2021 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. A private burial will follow.
