Nick Chris Copsis

Mr. Copsis, 87 of Charlotte, died Tuesday at Carolinas Medical Center. Nick, the son of the late Christos and Marigo (Harakas) Kopsiaftis, was born on April 21,1928 in Karyae, Greece. He served with the Greek Army after World War II and in 1955 moved to the US. After a brief stay in Chicago he settled in Charlotte. With his brothers Sam and George, they opened and operated the South 21 Drive In Restaurants for over 39 years. Mr. Copsis was preceded in death by his brothers Panos and Sotiris (Sam) and sisters Vasio, Paraskevi, Eleni and Eftihia.

Survivors include his wife of 53 year Anthoula (Markos) Copsis; children Dr. Peter (Pamela) Copsis of Matthews, Maria (Tim) Tassopoulos of Atlanta, GA.; brother George (Harriett) Copsis of Charlotte and sister Anna Sinodinos of Greenville, SC. Also surviving are his five grandchildren Luke and Nicholas Tassopoulos, Nicholas, Anthea and Vasili Copsis. He is also survived by several beloved nephews and nieces.

Mr Copsis was a long time and active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was the proud godfather to Patti Hondros, Theophani Nixon, John Maheras, Kikki Karres and Johnny Couchell.

The family wants to thank Dr. Norman Jack Kramer , Dr. John Fedor and Dr. Patti Roddey for the excellent care that they provided to Mr Copsis over the years.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 28th at 10AM at St. Nekatarios Greek Orthodox Church, 5108 Kuykendale Rd, Charlotte with a Trisagion service to follow at 10:30AM and funeral service at 11:00 am . Burial will follow at Evergreen City Cemetery, Charlotte. Memorials in memory of Mr. Copsis may be sent to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 600 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC, 28203, St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, 5108 Kuykendall Rd, Charlotte, NC, 28270, or to UNCC Dept. of Special Education, 9201 University City Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28223.
