Sandra Kay (Boney) Mixon

CHARLOTTE, NC – Sandra B. Mixon passed away on May 17, 2016, surrounded by family and dear friends. 

Sandy was born on June 22, 1952, in Elizabethtown to Benjamin Clarence Boney Jr. and Bobbie Hunter Boney. She attended Hoggard High School in Wilmington and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Sandy was a school teacher for 10 years before becoming an airline flight attendant and supervisor, working for Piedmont, US Airways and American Airlines over her 32-year career in the airline industry.

As reflected in her career, Sandy cared deeply about people and was always eager to help anyone in need; she never met a stranger. She loved the beach, beach music, dancing and skiing, formerly serving as an officer of the Charlotte Ski Bees. 

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her four brothers, Terry Boney and his wife Mary Ann of Springfield, TN; Benjamin Boney III of Orlando; David Boney and his partner Marilyn of Charlotte; and Michael Boney of Charlotte. She is also survived by her cousin Suzie Kennedy, her dearest friend Mallika Davis, and many other relatives and friends.

Sandy will be deeply missed. The Boney Family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the many friends who so richly blessed their sister's life. Special thanks to those life-long friends that ministered to Sandy in special ways including Joe and Mallika Davis, Wayne and Carol Sutton, and George and Deb Culbertson.

Memorial services to celebrate Sandy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Forest Hill Church (In the Chariot Room), located at 7224 Park Rd in Charlotte, and also in July (TBD) at Pine Valley Baptist Church, 3940 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association – Western Carolina Chapter.
